Biography

Mark Lammi is an emerging artist who resides in Eugene, Oregon. His work displays a strong emphasis on the relationship between line and form as evident in his thin hollow forms. Mark is becoming known for his ability to produce seemingly inimitable vessel and goblet forms often influenced by classic Venetian design. More recently he has been creating various sculptural works which incorporate multiple mediums and are inspired heavily by the natural world. Mark has taught classes and performed numerous lampworking demonstrations throughout the United States, Canada and Japan. He is an adjunct faculty member at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, OR and an Artist Ambassador for the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, PA. He has also served as a teaching assistant for Robert Mickelsen, David Willis, Bob Snodgrass and Freeman Corbin. Marks work can be found in numerous shops and galleries as well as public and private collections across the globe. His work is also on display at the Kobe Lampwork Glass Museum in Kobe, Japan as part of their permanent collection.

Artist Statement

“As an artist I’ve found borosilicate glass to be a medium unlike any other. There is a quality of intimacy between the glass and the artist that I find incredibly appealing. I am extremely attracted to the fluidity of glass as well as the ability to achieve so many different textures and appearances from elegant crystalline forms, to rough, organic textures and earth tones. I generally tend to find inspiration from the most unlikely places such as the poetry and prose of brilliant writers the likes of Blake, Whitman and Neruda to name a few. My work is also heavily influenced by the natural world and all of its wonders. Recently I have found my interests to be in many directions ranging from sculptural mixed media work to various studies in line and form such as large, thin vessels and formal goblets. I truly believe that it is important to maintain a deep respect and understanding for the glass as the material seems to respond accordingly. I have found this to be an integral part of the creative process.”
